Wusthof Classic 7-Inch Santoku Knife

Wusthof KnifeThe first step in beginning to cook for yourself is to get a decent knife. I started with a Classic 6-inch chef’s knife. I’ve had the knife for years and it’s still in great condition. However, if I knew then what I know now I would have bought the Wusthof Classic 7-Inch Santoku Knife, Hollow Edge. I like that the blade is wider which means your knuckles won’t hit the cutting board. I like that the blade is longer as well. I have just the one knife, you don’t need an entire set, however, as you begin to cook more you might find it useful to get a paring knife.

GreenPan Focus Aluminum Non-Stick Ceramic Fry Pan Set

Green PanA decent fry pan or two makes a huge difference when starting to cook. Stay away from Teflon! Seriously, that stuff is toxic and at high temperatures can leach into your food. I like ceramic pans like this GreenPan Focus Aluminum Non-Stick Ceramic Fry Pan Set. They are nonstick on their own. I use the 10 inch size almost daily to make breakfast.

Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole-Foods Lifestyle

Practical PaleoIf you are considering going Paleo, I could not recommend Diane Sanfilippo more, especially her book, Practical Paleo: A Customized Approach to Health and a Whole-Foods Lifestyle. The first part of the book is a biology lesson about what is going on in your body when you eat certain food. Don’t worry, if you want to skip that you can jump right to the meal plans and easy to make recipes. She doesn’t use a lot of hard to find ingredients which makes the dishes even easier to prepare.

Shrink Session

Erin StutlandErin Stutland is inspiring. She created Shrink Session-fun, dancy workouts that elevate your heart rate and incorporates mantras to change your mindset. I first did her Say It, Sweat It, Get It Challenge in December 2014 and my life has changed dramatically. Was it only this? Not likely, but I think it helped push me in the right direction. Movement in your body creates movement in your life!

Working with Amy was a huge gift that I gave to myself. She was able to review and discuss not only what I was eating, but how it was affecting me- by looking at the type of meals, the timing of meals and helping me track my moods. It was great to ha…
